I’m pretty new to escorting and wondered if it's common practice to ask for a deposit to ensure the client will more likely show up?

Or is it dodgy and probably a scam on the side of the escort?

As a general rule, personally I don't ask for deposits (but there are a few exceptions).

You're correct in suspecting demanding a deposit can make many clients nervous of a scam. Unfortunately the escort industry has been blighted by opportunist scammers who use deposits to trick people into handing over their money - with no intention of providing any sort of service.

If I have a new client who requests an overnight then occasionally I may ask for a reasble upfront payment of say 25%. Or if on the rare occasion it's a long distance out-call that involves travel then I ask for the travel costs to be paid upfront in advance, but not generally for existing clients who I can safely trust.

Now and then clients offer to pay a deposit in advance, and I would advise that you accept one. As I've found these types often turn out to be no-shows as contradictory as it seems.

Make sure it's clear your deposit is non-refundable if the client is a no-show.
